I was watching the news today, and I saw that President Obama has let stem cell research continue? Something like that. But it got me thinking, why are people so against abortion?
I, myself, am pro-choice. But then again, It's not my decision, or my body. If I ever got someone pregnant, I would probably be against it. But then, that's just me...
There are some girls that are victims of rape or incest. These girls become pregnant, and what happens to the baby? Adoption? But then the mother has to carry the child to term, and there is no way to ensure the child's safety, because there might be psychological harm, to the girl. She might seek to hurt herself, or her baby, so there was no point in that, only the loss of two innocent lives.
If the child does live, and gets adopted, or put in an orphanage, what kind of a life would the child lead? A life of wondering why their parents didn't want him/her?
Now, to talk about the conservatives (Especially Christians) who try to force people into not performing the act of "murder". I remember that I was walking once, to my local library, and I saw this poster for a local election. It said not to vote for this candidate because he (and I quote) "supported abortion and gay 'marriage'." I thought to myself, what kind of world do we live in that people would shamelessly use these topics for insignificant elections. I literally felt sick to my stomach that people would actually do this!
That's what I don't like about christian conservatives. While alot of them aren't like this, alot are, too. They try to force you into their way of thinking. Using shameless propaganda (i.e. Prop 8) to place their beliefs in your mind. Now don't get me wrong, alot aren't like this. I have a friend, a very sweet girl, who isn't like this. She doesn't do that, she respects your opinions, while asking you to respect hers.
Back to the abortion thing. I have this friend, her mom is a social worker. Her mom told me about this little girl, and her mother, who came in asking for money for an abortion. An abortion for the little girl, whose father had raped her. This little girl was 9 years old. Still playing with dolls. Would those against abortion still say for this little girl to carry this baby to term?
Then, think about those teen-age girls who have abusive parents. If they were to have that baby, some of their safety would be at risk. Theirs and their unborn child's.
Now to gay marriage. They are people, with feelings and souls. They are not going to hell because of who they choose to love. Love is love. Why shouldn't they be allowed to marry? Religious people fight against this so much, but...It. Has. Nothing. To. Do. With. Religion.
It was just legal marriage.
Well, anyways....I just thought I'd post this. This is my opinion, and I think its pretty fucked up that people act like this. This country isn't a church. While it may have been built on christian values, it is a free nation. Going against abortion and gay marriage is a violation of the three ideas this country was built on. Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
You're free to comment however you like. I'd like to hear your opinion. But please, just really come up with something, not just insults. Because I will make fun of you for them.

The abortion argument is very strong... I find the the gay marriage argument needs to be more developed all in all above average...
ReplyDeleteAren't you just full of opinions! ;-) Does Chaos~Dreaming have a name?
ReplyDeleteYou could go forever about abortion, but who's to say what's right and wrong? Doctors? Christians? Teachers? No matter what gets decided, there are always going to be people who disagree with you. I guess the question is: when is the developing foetus classified as a human being? As soon as the egg is fertilized? 1 week in? 12 weeks in? I don't think that this will ever be decided and it's quite frustrating.
I should probably go and finish my business coursework or else I will be in big trouble! :-O I'm off school today with flu, but I need to be back soon or else I will fall behind. :(
I liked your post! The arguments were really strong, especially for abortions. I'm pro-life for the most part, but I agree abortions are the right thing to do in some cases.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I just couldn't finish Ghost. It's really weird because I could stand the misogyny and the explicit sex, but not all the boring "going after nukes" stuff. I'm not sure what that says about me.

That's a really good review of Ghost and what inspired me to read it.
I read the first book in the Southern Vampire Mysteries. I thought it was okay, but not good enough to read the next one. And it wasn't really what my brother and I were looking for. We wanted it to be darker, more noir. So far Dresden is the only thing that fits.
