I don't understand Twilight. Really.
Why would Stephanie Meyer unleash such a horror on the world? I mean, it's horribly written, anti-feminist, and glamorizes an abusive relationship.
The abusive relationship thing. You know what really scares me about this? That the book was aimed toward girls ages 11-15. Yea, this anti-feminist piece of crap was aimed toward little girls. This book, whether intended or not, depicts an abusive relationship. I mean, Edward is watching Bella while she's sleeping, breaks her car so she can't see her best friend, had her kidnapped and baby-sat against her will. All under the guise of "Edward's just protective...".
I heard someone actually say this on Friday. It scares me. Do you really want little girls reading this? I'm just waiting for the fifth book in which Bella find a way to explain her bruises. "Edward's just protective..."
People compare this piece of shit to Harry Potter. What. The. Fuck?
Why?
I mean I was there when Harry Potter mania started. I was already a fan of the series, but still. Harry Potter was a good book. Not literary crap.
I just read this:
Each book in the series was inspired by and loosely based on a different literary classic: Twilight on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice; New Moon on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet; Eclipse on Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights; and Breaking Dawn on a second Shakespeare play, A Midsummer Night's Dream.
-"borrowed" from wikipedia
The bitch just insulted me! I sincerely feel insulted!
How dare they compare "New Moon" to "Romeo and Juliet"! It's bullshit! "A Midsummer Night's Dream", too! WTF?
....
Okay. I'm calm.
Her vampires are glittery crap. I mean, I wouldn't be so opposed to them IF she had done research. She did absolutely no research. I mean who does that?! She hasn't read Dracula, or anyone else's depictions of vampires! Even if she didn't want to read (it might hurt her head!) there's this new thing, they call it the Internet. You go to this site called "Google" you type what you need info on, and presto! You have it. USE IT!
I detest Twilight fans (to which I lovingly refer to as "Twatlighters"). They say they love vampires, but Twilight vampires aren't vampires! Vampires have to:
- Not sparkle.
- Have a natural aversion to crosses. It's a must.
- Have fangs.
- NOT SPARKLE!!!!
- Weaknesses, since Steph's vamps could obviously take over the world.
- ...did I mention CAN'T SPARKLE!!!!
They are "wampires". They're nothing, and a complete and utter brain-fart.
This is it. I'm done trashing Twilight for today. So, all of you "future Mrs. Cullens"....have fun with your abusive husband, mkay?
Thank You, Steph, for unleashing this horrible plague upon the world.

I'm laughing my head off at the title of this. Ok, good points until the Harry Potter bit. I'm seriously offended by that. Some people compare Twilight to Harry Potter? That's fucking bullshit dude. How can anyone even think that? *shakes fist in angrer* Anyone who actually thinks that is a bollock-brained dickhead. They cann fuck off and worship their 'vamprats' and their 'Twi-shite' >:( I didn't 'hate' Twilight before, but since the Harry Potter thing I am disgusted. *leaves and cries*
ReplyDeleteI dislike twilight. I wouldn't say it's particularly anti-feminist though, I mean, Bella wants to get married and have kids and she does, Bella wants to be turned into a vampire, and she is. Feminism is just about women getting what they want, just because they choose a family life doesn't mean they're anti feminist. Okay, rant over.
ReplyDeleteAnd, Dracula only depicts one type of vampire. Before writing books because I common way to tell a story there were all types of vampire in oral tradition. I'm not saying any of them sparkled but just because it doesn't fit the normal view we have of vampires doesn't make it less relevant.
however I completely agree on the whole abusive relashionship thing, that would never work out in the long run.
Yay! People disagreeing with me actually have a point! Lol! jk.
ReplyDeleteUsually, when people defend twilight (usually twatlighters) they have no arguement, other then the ones that I have stated.
The antifeminist thing stems from the fact that Bella gives everything up for Edward, while he's just standing there, all sparkly and pedophilic.
And I dont mean that everyone's vampires must be exactly like dracula, but I mention that because Steph hasn't read it, and the her vampires were nothing but a brain fart. The only thing they share with the vampire mythos is that the drink blood. And its ok of she wanted to change it, but why couldn't she have done research. That irks me. To the max.
The abusive thing creeped me the hell out when I first noticed it. Then coupled with who it was aimed at, it scared me. *Shudder*
Yeah the abusive thing is worrying. And she probably should have done more research. You still haven't sold me on the anti-feminism thing though seeing as Bella didn't seem to have any ambition before she met edward she didn't seem to give up too much to be with him. She always seemed to want to be a wife and mother.
